6th Grade Graduation

May 31st, 2009 Comments off

Last Wednesday, May 27th, the West Melbourne School for Science held their graduation ceremonies for the 6th grade class. WMSS is ranked 3rd amongst all elementary schools in Florida. It was a very nice ceremony with a reception afterward in the media center. One of the highlights of the ceremony was the distribution of the President’s Award for Educational Excellence. A letter from President Obama was recited by the vice principal Lisa McBee. By maintaining a high GPA and performing exceptionally on the FCAT tests, Chris was one of only a few at WMSS to receive this award.

Below is an approximately 10 minute video with some of the highlights from Chris’s 6th Grade Graduation & Reception.

A few notes about the new blog format

May 13th, 2009 Comments off

As you can see, ecg3.com has taken on a new look. This format follows the more standard “blog” (or web log) format found on the web.  Here are some things to try:

  1. Clicking on the title of the post will take you to a page where you may submit comments on the thread.
  2. Right click on the videos to get a full screen mode (as well as some other options)
  3. Clicking the images in the photo galleries will present an almost full screen view of the photo.

My current plan is to continue to experiment with the format and see what other things we can come up with. WordPress offers a number of plugins and widgets that I’ll add to the page.

Embedded Video Plugin

May 12th, 2009 Comments off

WordPress has a large number of plug-ins available. I found one called “Embedded Video” that looks promising. The previous video link I had included would always start up automatically when I loaded the page. While this in itself is not a bad thing, I suspect that having multiple videos playing at the same time would a little confusing.

A few details on the video. This was shot at the Aiguille Gym in Orlando, FL during a team practice over there in preparation for this weekend’s competition. It was really all part of learning the new HandyCam and then figuring out what to do with the video after it was shot. I am hoping that sometime on Sunday, May 17th, I’ll have at least 4 new videos posted from Saturday’s Regional Competition.
